Employment with the CTBTO

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), is an international organization located in Vienna, Austria. Its main task is to establish a global verification regime to monitor compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which bans all nuclear explosions on Earth.  The verification regime includes a global network of 337 monitoring facilities, using four different technologies (seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide), a communications infrastructure, an international data centre, and the capability to carry out on-site inspections.

The CTBTO provides equal opportunities to individuals with a high caliber of scientific and technical skills, as well as non-technical skills,  of different nationalities and backgrounds. We offer a highly diverse and rich, multicultural work  environment.

The CTBTO is a non-career organization with a seven year service limit policy for professional and internationally recruited General Services staff.

Our staff members enjoy tax free remuneration,  medical insurance coverage which is valid worldwide, and participation in the Provident Fund. Additional benefits include, where applicable, an assignment grant, dependency allowance, education grant for children, rental subsidy, six weeks vacation per year and home leave travel every two years. Assistance is provided to staff members when relocating to Vienna in finding accommodation and schools.  The CTBTO covers the cost of removal of personal effects.
