Head, Software Integration Unit (P-5)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Software Applications Section, International Data Centre Division, to: Manage software applications for the International Data Centre in the fields of seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound, radionuclide and atmospheric transport processing, as well as data acquisition, communication and data fusion. Formulate plans and strategies for maintaining and developing IDC applications software; implement the plans by leading the Unit and managing contracts awarded to software companies, groups and consultants. Keep a reasonable and realistic balance between inside and outside development and maintenance efforts to support a viable and skillful software unit. Liaise with expertise inside and outside the Organization to move new methods into the software realm.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced university degree in computer science or engineering or a related field with emphasis on scientific software management and development for use in seismology, geophysics, hydroacoustics, nuclear and atmospheric physics. At least 10 years relevant working experience in management and development of software to process large volumes of data, using UNIX operating system, C and C++ programming languages, and relational databases, especially Oracle;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.

Client Orientation – Skillful in identifying clients’ needs and establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Decision-making – Ability to make sound and timely decisions.

 

REMUNERATION/CONTRACT:
Depending on professional background and experience, indicative tax-free annual net base salary (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$131,136 (without dependants) and US$141,350 (with dependants), subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme. Additional benefits include, when applicable, dependency allowance, education grant for children, rental subsidy, six weeks vacation per year, home leave travel every two years.  Initial contract for a fixed term of three years.
