Saint Lucia ratifies Comprehensive
Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty

Saint Lucia deposited its instrument of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) with the Secretary-General of the United Nations on 5 April 2001. Saint Lucia is the seventy-sixth State Signatory and the twelfth in the Latin American and Caribbean region to have ratified the Treaty. Saint Lucia is also the third CARICOM member, together with Grenada and Guyana, to have ratified the Treaty, and it is hoped that this will help to advance the signature and ratification process in the region. The CTBT bans any nuclear weapon test explosion or any other nuclear explosion anywhere in the world. Drafted at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 September 1996, the Treaty was opened for signature on 24 September 1996 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. *********
