Anders Axelsson is Senior Scientist at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), Division of Defence & Security Systems and Technology, and technical advisor to the Swedish Government on nuclear arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation verification issues.
Dr Axelsson has worked on the development of nuclear detection and identification methods as well as on assessing the utility of such methods in many contexts, in particular nuclear materials safeguards, nuclear disarmament and nuclear test monitoring. Besides verification research and development, he has been involved in nuclear arms- and nuclear proliferation threat monitoring and assessment. He has worked with the evaluation of environmental sampling data in the IAEA Safeguards Department and with the development of radionuclide methods and technology in the On-Site Inspection Division of the CTBTO. He has also been deeply involved in the science and technology of radio-xenon measurement for CTBT verification for the past 15 years. He is currently manager of the Swedish National Data Centre for CTBT monitoring. His current research interests therefore mainly focus on the effective and efficient use of data and information from all available sources to detect and characterize events of possible CTBT relevance.
