LI Hua is a Professor of Applied Physics, and the Director for Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics. He provides service to a number of Chinese academic societies, including acting as the council member of the Chinese Nuclear Society, Executive Deputy Chair of the Counsel of Chinese Computational Physics Society, and Chair of the Chinese Physical Gas Dynamics Committee under the Chinese Aerodynamics Society.
He served as a senior expert in the Chinese delegation for Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty negotiations in Geneva from 1994 to 1996. He has taken part in a series of meetings at the CTBTO on verification –related matters (Working Group B) since 1997. As the Director of the Program for Science and National Security Studies (PSNSS) for the last decade and in cooperation with several domestic and international institutions, Professor LI has co-sponsored and co-chaired a series of international conferences – the PIIC Beijing Seminar on International Security – which aim to promote a strong correlation between science and security studies.
