Nadezhda Nikolaevna Belyashova
Nadezhda Nikolaevna Belyashova has been the Director of the Institute of Geophysical Research since 1996. She joined the Institute in 1993 as the Deputy Director for scientific work.
Prior to this Nadezhda Belyashova worked from 1973 till 1992at the southern branch of the Special Experimental-Methodical Geophysical Expedition of the Ministry of Geology of the USSR.
She has been closely involved with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) since its conception, serving as a representative of Kazakhstan in the Group of Scientific Experts from 1995 to 1996.She has also been a member of Kazakhstan’s delegation to the CTBTO since 1997.Under Dr Belyashova’s leadership and with the support of the CTBTO and the national organizations of various countries, a nuclear test and earthquakes monitoring system has been established and continues to develop in Kazakhstan.
Her area of expertise is in the geophysical study of the deep structure of the Earth’s crust using deep seismic sounding and various complexes of geophysical methods.
Dr Belyashova is the author of more than 100 publications.She is also the Academic Adviser to the Engineering Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
