NADEZHDA NIKOLAEVNA BELYASHOVA
Senior Geophysicist at the Institute of Geophysical Research, Ministry of Energy, Kazakhstan
Nadezhda Nikolaevna Belyashova is the Senior Geophysicist at the Institute of Geophysical Research, Ministry of Energy in Kazakhstan. She was the Director of the Institute from 1996 until 2016. From 1973 until 1992, she worked at the southern branch of the Special Experimental-Methodical Geophysical Expedition of the Ministry of Geology of the USSR.
Belyashova has been closely involved with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) since its inception, serving as a representative of Kazakhstan in the Group of Scientific Experts from 1995 to 1996. She has also been a member of Kazakhstan’s delegation to the CTBTO since 1997. Under Dr. Belyashova’s leadership and with the support of the CTBTO and the national organizations of various countries, a nuclear test and earthquake monitoring system has been established and continues to develop in Kazakhstan.
Dr. Belyashova’s area of expertise is in the geophysical study of the deep structure of the earth’s crust using deep seismic sounding and various combinations of geophysical methods. She is the author of more than 100 publications. She is also the Academic Adviser to the Engineering Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
