Vorian Maryssael
International Monitoring System Division
Vorian Maryssael has served as the Director of the International Monitoring System (IMS) Division at the CTBTO in Vienna since February 2012.
Maryssael is a Mexican national who completed her higher education in Sweden, obtaining a Master of Science with a Major in Earth Sciences from Stockholm University, Institute of Geology and Geochemistry, in 1998. She started her international career in the oil industry, working for high-tech companies including CGGVeritas, Paradigm, Fugro NV and TGS AS. While working for CGGVeritas and Paradigm she was based in Mexico and the UK, developing the market for geophysical software tools and integrated studies. In 2005 she opened Fugro-Jason’s Norway branch and developed its business in geophysical consultancy services, integrating geoscience and engineering data. Later she worked with TGS as the General Manager for their Geological Products and Services branch in Stavanger, Norway, where she was responsible for activities in Norway, Russia and Greenland.
During her professional career which has spanned nearly 20 years, Maryssael has developed expertise in managing teams and organizations that produce and sell a wide range of cutting edge technologies and services and has gained experience in multi-national and multi-cultural business development. She has also been an active board member of independent companies.
As the Director of the IMS Division at the CTBTO, she is directly responsible to the Executive Secretary for the installation and certification of the network’s stations, systems and facilities, as well as the engineering and development of the network and its continuous sustainment. The IMS Division is also responsible for all logistics and shipments associated with the network, as well as the storage and accessibility of all data received from the stations. The complete network consists of 337 facilities, supplemented by 40 noble gas systems, around the globe.
Maryssael is married to a Norwegian national and the mother of twins.
