Objectives
- To provide both classroom lectures and hands-on training.
- Lectures will be held in the morning and hands-on training will folow inthe afternoons.
- The training is intended to give a comprehensive exposure to the Radionuclide Aerosol Sampler/Analyzer's (RASA) utility as an automated system that collects environmental aerosols on a filter, which is automatically counted by a high-purity germanium (HPGe) radiation detector.
- The training will be conducted at the General dynamics training facility in Fairfax, USA, using the RASA system.
Agenda
The following will be covered:
Day one: Overview of the RASA system and the Technical Training Programme (TTP);
Day two: RASA operating procedures, software operating interace and associated files, and data communication procedures. Emphasis will be placed on the SSO Manual.
Day three: Software servers and various menu options,control commands and site infrastructure;
Day four: primarily station maintenance;
Day five: Station Operator's responsibilities and station preparation, with attention on troubleshooting. An open-book, take-home examination will be given to the students, which must be completed and returned to GDAIS in order for students to receive the RASA Operator's certificate.
Participants Profile
Station Operators of IMS Radionuclide stations equipped with RASA detectors who are directly concerned with the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment.
Application Procedures
Nominations together with the registration forms should be submitted only through established official channels (their Permanent Missions to the Preparatory Commission for the CTBTO or Ministries of Foreign Affairs) to the PTS point of contact above, not later than 29 July 2011.
However, pending the official nomination, the participants may fax the registration upon its approval by a director of the institution or firm, to allow timely travel and accommodation arrangements by the PTS.
Financial Information
In accordance with the Staff regulations and rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide a Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) and financial support to cover travel costs.
- The DSA will be sufficient to cover accomodation and related expenses during the training program.
- The PTS travel agent will reserve, issue and forward the electronic flight tickets to the particianpts for the most direct and economic route.
- Participants may, under exceptional circumstances, be authorized to purchaes their flight ticket locally, but only if this proves to be most cost efficient for the PTS and authorization by the Commission was provided in advance.
