Objectives

  • To revisit current categorization schemes;
  • To share experience on tested categorization schemes; and
  • To present alternative and additional approaches.

Agenda

Workshop

  • Discussion of the definition of radionuclide event;
  • Sharing operational experiences, statistics and lessons learned on tested categorization schemes and different types of filters;
  • Consideration of the need for further scientific studies on alternative categorization methods;
  • Consideration of the use of laboratories in confirming the character of the event based on radionuclide event screening categories;
  • Consideration of the use of atmospheric transport modelling in combining different noble gas and particulate detections together;
  • Consideration of simultaneous categorization of the noble gas and particulate systems co-locating in the same station.

CTBT Science and Technology 2013 Conference

  • The Earth as a complex system
  • Events and their characterization
  • Advances in sensors, networks and processing.

Participants Profile

Workshop
Applicants should be radionuclide and atmospheric transport modelling experts who are experienced in categorization of radionuclide observations for nuclear explosion monitoring. In particular those working at NDCs and those participating in the Radionuclide Expert Group at the WCB.
