Objectives

The Workshop on the Signatures of Medical and Industrial Isotope Production (WOSMIP IV) seeks to bring together experts form the monitoring and isotope production communities to better understand the challenges that 99Mo production effluent signatures present and to propose ways to mitigate emissions without impact on production.

Agenda

  • Introductory session: goals of the work, description of the problem, review of past activities;
  • Detections of emissions or events or effluents (includes remote detection, stack monitoring, and local measurements);
  • Recent and planned activities at isotope production facilities;
  • Trends in Chemistry and abatement;
  • Industry reduction of abatement;
  • Changes in chemistry and abatement due to the HEU to LEU conversion.

Participants Profile
Attendance at previous WOSMIP IV workshops is not a prerequisite for attendance in 2013; however it would be beneficial for participants to be aware of the issues. We request experts in national and international environmental organizations that are familiar with the medial isotope emission issues.  We also request experts in monitoring and processing of 99Mo medical isotope production facilities. As the emissions are not of a health and safety concern, the workshop does not involve discussions related to regulatory matters.
