Where did France conduct its nuclear tests?

France’s nuclear testing series is divisible into four distinct periods, by date and location: 1960-1961: atmospheric nuclear tests in Algeria; 1961-1966: underground nuclear tests in Algeria; 1966-1974: atmospheric nuclear tests in French Polynesia on the atolls of Mururoa and Fangataufa located some 1,000 kilometers from Tahiti in the South Pacific; and 1974-1996: underground nuclear tests on the atolls of Mururoa and Fangataufa.
