What was the only time that nuclear bombs have been used?

The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan during World War II: one on the city of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 and one on the city of Nagasaki on 9 August 1945. It is estimated that the bombs killed as many as 220,000 people in Japan by the end of 1945, roughly half that number on the days of the bombings themselves.
