Annual Report 2012

International support for the Treaty continued to rise in 2012 with the number of signatures and ratifications increasing to 183 and 157 respectively. Indonesia’s ratification was especially significant as it reduced to eight the number of Annex 2 States that must ratify the Treaty before it can enter into force. The year witnessed major preparations for the 2014 Integrated Field Exercise in Jordan, which aims to boost significantly the CTBTO’s operational capacities for on-site inspections.  The International Monitoring System (IMS) reached a new level of maturity with over 80% of its network fully operational while data availability from the network increased to 90%. Capacity building programmes for National Data Centre staff and station operators also expanded as did the number of courses offered as part of the Capacity Development Initiative.
