The symposium "Science and Diplomacy for Peace and Security: the [email protected]" was the first in a series of events in the year of the 20th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).


Eminent personalities, internationally recognized experts and thought leaders stimulated the discussions. These included some of the lead negotiators of the CTBT in the Conference on Disarmament in the mid-1990s. Selected speeches:

    The symposium comprised online e-learning modules and a two-week long live seminar-style symposium to be held in Vienna and streamed online. Topics included nuclear testing and the arms race, the CTBT’s role in the nuclear non-proliferation regime, and multilateral arms control and verification - see content overview.

    Simulation exercise

    A CTBTO Executive Council simulation exercise enabled the participants to apply concepts and ideas discussed during the symposium. Participants who completed all required coursework and assignments will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion.
