Hans Blix is a diplomat and politician who was the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1978 to 1979. He subsequently served as the Director General of the IAEA and guided the Agency through the Chernobyl disaster, revelations of a clandestine nuclear weapons programme in Iraq and  North Korea’s safeguards violations. From 2000 to 2003, Dr Blix was Executive Chairman of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission which investigated Iraq's compliance with its obligation to be rid of its weapons of mass destruction.

Siegfried S. Hecker served as director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) from 1986 to 1997 and as senior fellow until July 2005. Under his leadership, LANL helped develop the Stockpile Stewardship Program to ensure the safety and reliability of U.S. nuclear weapons in the absence of nuclear testing. Dr Hecker is also a Professor and Senior Fellow at the Stanford University Center for International Security and Cooperation where he was co-director from 2007 to 2012. He is currently on sabbatical as a Visiting Distinguished Scientist at the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation.




Patricia Lewis is the Research Director for International Security at Chatham House, where she works on issues such as moving towards a Weapons of Mass Destruction Free Zone in the Middle East. Previously, she was Deputy Director and Scientist-in-Residence of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in the United States. Dr Lewis was also the Director of the Verification Technology and Information Centre from 1989 to 1997 and subsequently Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research.

Michel Miraillet is the Director for Strategic Affairs in the French Ministry of Defense where he advises the Minister on the French stance on issues affecting defence including arms control, NATO and European Defense.  Previously, he was in the French Secretariat General of National Defence where he was Director for International and Strategic Affairs  and coordinated the Government’s action on issues concerning France’s internal and external security. Mr Miraillet has also held positions in the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Egypt, Israel, U.S. and to NATO.

Ellen Tauscher is an American politician and former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security from 2009 to 2012 when she managed global U.S. security policy in the areas of non-proliferation and arms control. Subsequently, she was U.S. Special Envoy for Strategic Stability and Missile Defense. Prior to these appointments, she was a Democratic member of Congress for California’s 10th Congressional District, which is the only district to have two national defense laboratories, Lawrence Livermore and Sandia California.
