Alik Ismail-Zadeh is Senior Scientist at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany; Chief Scientist of the Institute of Earthquake Prediction Theory and Mathematical Geophysics, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Moscow, Russia; and Visiting Research Professor at the Institut de Physique du Globe, Paris, France. He is also the co-leader of the Research Group “Numerical Methods in Geodynamics” at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Dr Ismail-Zadeh’s has been a lecturer at KIT and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy and has been a visiting scholar/professor at several universities including the University of Cambridge (UK), UCLA (USA), University of Tokyo (Japan), University of Uppsala and the Royal Institute of Technology at Stockholm (Sweden), and the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing, China). His scientific interests cover the dynamics of the crust and lithosphere and its surface manifestations including seismicity, seismic hazard and risk. He is an author of over 100 peer-reviewed papers and five books. Dr. Ismail-Zadeh is Secretary-General of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).
