Leif Bjørnø was professor of Industrial Acoustics and head of the Department of Industrial Acoustics at the Technical University of Denmark from 1978 to 2000. He is a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog, a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences and the Danish Academy of Natural Sciences. He is a Fellow or Honorary Member of several international learned societies, including a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has received honorary degrees, medals and prizes from a number of universities around the world.
He was chairman or member of the board of directors for several industrial companies in Denmark and abroad between 1980 and 2013, and has been involved in founding many companies. His scientific interests cover underwater acoustics, nonlinear acoustics, and ultrasonics, and he has authored or co-authored more than 400 papers in national and international journals, books and conference proceedings. He has been editor or member of the editorial board for several international scientific journals, and a visiting professor to many universities and research institutes. He has also been a national delegate to committees under the European Union and NATO.
