(1) to obtain feedback from experts of National Data Centres (NDCs), as customers of the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS, to further improve the performance of the verification system

(2) to introduce users to new PTS relevant developments and plans

Application Procedures:

States Signatories wishing to nominate experts are requested to inform the Evaluation Section of the Provisional Technical Secretariat through their Permanent Missions before 23 March 2009.

Participants are requested to complete the attached registration form and send it to the point of contact before 31 March 2009.

Financial Information:

No registration fee will be charged.

The PTS will bear the costs of the workshop.

Travel costs, daily subsistence allowance, health insurance, etc., are to be borne by the participants.

Subject to the availability of funds and the submission of a poster or a brief PowerPoint presentation, the PTS will explore the possibility of providing limited financial assistance to some of the experts coming from countries with low or lower middle income in accordance with the World Development Indicators database of the World Bank.

Participants requesting financial assistance should register and submit a file of their poster or PowerPoint presentation relevant to the objectives of the workshop before 31 March 2009

The PTS will make arrangements for issuance of flight tickets and hotel bookings for sibsidized participants.


As recommended by the 2008 NDC Evaluation Workshop, the 2009 workshop will devote more time to NDC issues than in past workshops and the following topics will be addressed:

(1) Discussion of NDC issues in order to obtain evaluation input from the NDCs;

(2) Discussions of 2008 NDC Preparedness Exercise (NPE) results and way forward for future NPEs;

(3) Exploring NDC contributions to system performance testing;

(4) Screening criteria; and

(5) Data quality issues.

Posters and Presentations

Participants should indicate in the registration form whether they intend to submit a poster or a brief PowerPoint presentation relevant to the objectives of the workshop.


Participants are encouraged to present posters on NDC activities related to the topics of the workshop.

Abstracts for poster presentations should be sent electronically to Ms Olfa Seyah, email address olfa.seyahping@ctbtopong.org.

Posters will be briefly introduced by authors in a plenary session. Further discussion on posters can be held during breaks.

Posters measurement: maximum width -1.5 metres; length - no limitation.


The content of presentations should be related to the topics of the workshop.

Presentations should be submitted electronically by mid April 2009 to Ms Olfa Seyah, email address olfa.seyahping@ctbtopong.org, and on a CD-ROMs during the workshop.

The duration of a presentation should not exceed 15 minutes.

(2)  Accommodation

Accommodation for all participants will be sought at the workshop venue.

(3) Visa 

Participants should apply for visas, if needed, at       the corresponding consular office at least thirty days before 18 May 2009 (workshop opening date) in order to ensure timely processing. The PTS will provide personal invitations to visa applicants.

(4) Health and Accident Insurance  

Prior to their departure to Beijing, participants  should acquire a health and accident insurance for the duration of the workshop.
