The 2011 NDC Evaluation Workshop is being organized be the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization in cooperation with the Government of Romania. It will be held in Bucharest, Romania, from 3 to 7 October 2011.

As stated in the Report of Working Group B to the Thirty-Sixth Session of the Preparatory Commission [CTBT/PC-36/WGB/1], the workshop will focus also on the ability of National Data Centres (NDCs) to carry out their verification activities and the results of the 2010 NDC Preparedness Exercise (NPE10) will be presented and discussed this workshop. The scenario of the next NPE will also be drafted at this workshop.

Against this background, The objectives of the workshop are to provide a forum for NDC experts to share experience in fulfilling their verification responsibilities and to provide NDC feedback to the PTS on all aspects of the data, products, services and support NDCs in their work.

(a) The results of the 2010 NDC Preparedness Exercise and plans for the subsequent exercises.

(b) Review of previous NDC workshop recommendations.

(c) PTS data, products, services and support.

(d) Data fusion concepts and services, and their importance to the NDC mission.


Participants Profile
The workshop is open only to the CTBT States Signatories and is intended for persons involved in NDC related activities.

Application Procedures
States Signatories wishing to nominate experts are requested to inform the Evaluation Section of the PTS through their Permanent Missions by 25 August 2011 at the latest.

Participants are requested to complete the registration form and send it to the PTS point of contact by 1 September 2011 at the latest.

No registration fee will be charged.

Financial Information

Travel costs, accommodation, daily subsistence allowance, health insurance, etc., are to be borne by the participants.

Subject to the availability of funds the PTS will explore the possibility of providing limited financial assistance to some of the experts coming from countries with low or lower middle income in accordance with the World Development Indicators Database of the World Bank.

Participants requesting financial assistance have to submit an abstract of their suggested presentation relevant to a topic of the workshop together with their registration form. Applications for PTS support are required to arrive at the PTS earlier, i.e., by 25 August 2011 at the latest.

The PTS will make the appropriate arrangements for the air tickets and hotel reservations for subsidized participants at their request.

Other Pertinent Information

The workshop is hosted by the Government of the Republic of Romania and it is organized by the PTS in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Romania.

For the accommodation of workshop participants, a special rate including breakfast has been granted at the RIN Grand Hotel: single room EUR 54, double room EUR 63.

Participants should make their own hotel reservations, including the arrangements for payment, by 1 September 2011 at the latest.
