Regional Infrasound Workshop

  • To further build up the national and regional capacities in implementing the Treaty and participating in the verification regime, as well as to promote the civil and scientific application of verification technologies, in particular to promote the importance of infrasound technology;
  • To promote the exchange of experience and expertise in Infrasound technology among the NDCs in SEAPFE region; 
  • To strengthen participants’ knowledge of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the work of the Preparatory Commission.

Infrasound Integrated Training

  • To understand and learn how Infrasound data can help in the verification regime and civil and scientific application;
  • To learn how to use the Infrasound tools in the NDC in a Box (NiaB) package with processing the data collected from a portable array experiment;
  • To stimulate regional cooperation in Infrasound data analysis through the NDCs.


Regional NDC workshop

  • Presentations of the latest developments regarding capacity building and training in the IDC,
  • Infrasound technology at the IMS and IDC, 
  • Civil and scientific applications of IMS data and IDC products with emphasis on special interest to NDCs in SEAPFE,
  • Field trip and technical visit. 

Integrated training, presentations and discussions

  • IMS data and IDC products and to access mechanism,
  • Infrasound processing system,
  • IDC Infrasound Reference Event Database (IRED),
  • NiaB package,
  • Hands-on on infrasound data analysis,
  • Introduction of NiaB tools,
  • Configuration of DTK-(G)PMCC,
  • Data analysis using DTK-(G)PMCC,
  • Event characterization and interpretation.


Applicants should be involved in the use of IMS Data and IDC Products, in particular NDC researchers and analysts, other persons involved in infrasound technology and related fields.

Please be informed that the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) will solicit presentations and posters from participants on the topics of the workshop. The workshop aims to have a broad regional representation from SEAPFE.

Participation in the training requires the participant to have a degree in geophysics and/or atmospheric science and/or acoustics, have experience with data processing and worked in areas related to SHI technologies. 

Although some computer resources are going to be provided during the workshop, it is highly recommended that the participants bring along a laptop of recent model and satisfactory specifications in hard disk (at least 100GB of free space) and memory (at least 4GB of RAM) to allow the use of the NiaB Virtual Machine. This enables participants to use the software of the Commission and continue processing and analysing SHI data after the workshop.


Applicants are requested to visit  and apply online at the latest by 14 April 2024. 

Financial support may be available for a limited number of participants, and subject to the submission of an abstract. Such assistance must be requested at the time of registration (by selecting the relevant box during online registration) and no later than 14 April 2024. 

States Signatories wishing to nominate experts are requested to inform the PTS (see Point of Contact) through their respective Permanent Mission.

Abstract Submission
Applicants are invited to submit an abstract relevant to the objectives of the workshop at  before the registration deadline. Applications without an abstract submission will not be eligible for financial support.

Applicable to PTS-funded participants only

In accordance with the Staff regulations and rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide candidates with a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and financial support to cover the travel related costs for the workshop. 

  • The DSA will be sufficient to cover related expenses during the workshop and training program.
  • The PTS travel agent will reserve, issue and send the tickets to the participants for the most direct and economic route.
  • Participants may, under exceptional circumstances, be authorized to purchase their ticket locally, but only if this proves to be most cost efficient for the PTS and has been authorized by the PTS in advance.
  • Health insurance will be provided for the duration of the workshop and training.

Requirement: Scanned passport copies.


Participants should apply for visas, if needed, at the corresponding consular office, upon receipt of an acceptance Note Verbale from the Secretariat, in order to ensure timely processing. 

Health/Accident Insurance
It is strongly recommended that prior to departure all non-funded participants should acquire health and accident insurance for the duration of the workshop.
