Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso pays a courtesy visit to the Prep. Commission

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso, H.E. Mr Youssouf Ouedraogo paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Mr Wolfgang Hoffmann. During his meeting with Hoffmann, Mr Ouedraogo stressed Burkina Faso's support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO), which Burkina Faso signed on 27 September 1996 and ratified on 17 April 2002. Mr Ouedraogo added that his country wanted to play an active role in the promotion of global security. When discussing issues relating to the CTBT and its ratification, the Minister expressed his willingness to contribute to the acceleration of the ratification process by encouraging other African countries to ratify the Treaty. Currently, 51 of the 53 States in the Africa Region have signed the Treaty and 27 have ratified it. There are four African States listed in Annex 2 of the CTBT and three of them have already ratified the Treaty. The ratification of the CTBT by all 44 States listed in Annex 2 of the Treaty is required for it to enter into force.
