It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of Yukiya Amano. This is a great loss for the international community. In his role as Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mr. Amano was an effective advocate for nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful use of nuclear technologies for development.  Mr. Amano had a long and distinguished career in the service of the international community.  He was an exemplary diplomat representing Japan, and was committed to achieving a more peaceful and prosperous world.  I appreciate and acknowledge his service to the international community and express my sincere condolences and sympathy to his family, friends, and the staff of the IAEA.
