Training Course on NDC Capacity Building for the South-East Asia, Pacific, and Far East (SEAPFE) region: Access and Analysis of Waveform IMS Data and IDC products

OBJECTIVES

  • Understanding the roles of National Data Centres in the verification regime;
  • Building and/or improving the National Data Centre capabilities;
  • Providing participants with practical experience in accessing and analyzing waveform IMS data using NDC-in-a-Box software package, and
  • Promoting best practices for the effective use of IMS data and IDC products in civil and scientific applications.
     

AGENDA

  • Participants introductions and course overview.
  • Methods for accessing IMS data and IDC products.
  • Overview of NDC-in-a-Box software components for IMS data acquisition, processing, and storage.
  • Hands-on sessions on accessing and processing IMS data using NDC-in-a-Box tools.
  • Best practices for using SeisComP, Geotool, and DTK-GPMCC.
     

PARTICIPANT PROFILE
The training course aims to ensure broad participation from NDCs in the SEAPFE region, particularly: 

  • NDC technical staff and analysts, preferably authorized users (Principal or Regular) with experience in IMS waveform data analysis or related work in support of nuclear test-ban verification regime.
  • Seismologists who operate and process regional and local seismic network data to detect seismic events and determine their parameters.
  • Experts from States planning to establish a National Data Centre.
     

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Applicants are invited to submit their applications for this training course through the established official channels (their Permanent Mission to the CTBTO or Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Deadline for application is the 8 February 2026

Following the review of applications, applicants will be notified accordingly. However, pending the official nomination, participants may email their registration once it has been approved by the Director or Head of their institution, to allow the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) to make timely travel and accommodation arrangements.


FINANCIAL INFORMATION
In accordance with its Staff Regulations and Rules and Administrative Directives, the PTS will provide funded participants the following : 

  • A round-trip ticket to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on the most direct and economic route;
  • Funded participants are not allowed to purchase their own tickets unless, under exceptional circumstances, authorized to do so and only if this proves to be the most cost effective option for the PTS;
  • The PTS will book a hotel and cover the costs for the accommodation. Training participants will receive the relevant portion of the Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) via bank transfer upon arrival to the first day of the training; and
  • Health and accident insurance will be provided for the duration of the training, including travel days.


OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION 

Visas 
Participants should apply for visas, if needed and as soon as possible, at the corresponding Embassy/Consular office upon receipt of an acceptance letter from the PTS, in order to ensure timely processing.
